Overload a service so real users cannot reach it.

About this module

A Denial-of-Service attack doesn't steal data — it makes a service unavailable, attacking the "A" in the CIA triad. This module covers how floods are built (botnets), the three attack families, the classic techniques, and — defense-first — how organizations detect and absorb them. The lab only watches a flood against your own VM, so nothing leaves your lab network.

What you will learn

  • DoS vs DDoS, and botnets
  • The three attack categories
  • Volumetric and protocol attacks (SYN flood)
  • Application-layer (L7) attacks
  • Amplification & reflection (DRDoS)
  • Detection, countermeasures and protection services

How to study: read a lesson → answer its 2 "Check yourself" questions → do the lab → pass the assessment with 80%+. Lessons 1, 2, 4 and 6 are the most tested.
